Simple Steps for a Cozy, Healthy Winter
Preparing Your Home for Winter: Simple Steps for a Cozy, Healthy Season
Hey Natural Parents!
As the days grow shorter and the air gets crisper, I’ve been thinking about the ways we can prepare our homes for winter. The shift in seasons is the perfect opportunity to make our spaces cozy, warm, and nourishing for ourselves and our families. Here are some of my favorite ways to get our home ready for winter naturally.
1. Embrace Layers
One of the simplest ways to keep your home cozy is by adding extra layers to common spaces. Think warm blankets, heavier curtains, and flannel sheets on the beds. I love layering throws and blankets in family spaces to keep everyone cozy without needing to turn up the heat too high. Rugs are also a great addition to keep floors warm and inviting.
2. Stock Up on Seasonal Essentials
Cold and flu season is right around the corner, so it’s a good time to restock your natural wellness essentials. A few jars of homemade soups or bone broths in the freezer are wonderful to have ready too, making it easy to nourish the family with warm, comforting meals.
3. Deep Clean and Declutter
A clean home always feels more peaceful, especially during the months when we’re indoors more. Take a weekend to deep clean and declutter each room. Dust off the high surfaces, wash bedding, and air out spaces before the cold really sets in. This creates a fresh start for the season and helps eliminate allergens that can be more noticeable in winter.
4. Seal and Insulate
With colder weather, drafts can sneak in through windows and doors. Take some time to check for drafts, especially around windows, doors, and outlets. Using weather-stripping tape, caulking gaps, or adding draft stoppers can make a noticeable difference in keeping your home warm and energy efficient.
5. Embrace Natural Scents
The air can feel a bit stale when we close our windows for winter, so I like to bring in natural scents to keep our home feeling fresh. Think simmering cinnamon sticks, cloves, and orange peels on the stove or using a few drops of essential oils like eucalyptus, peppermint, or lavender in a diffuser. These add a cozy feel to any space, without the chemicals found in many synthetic air fresheners.
6. Prepare for Cozy Family Time
One of my favorite parts of winter is all the extra family time we spend together. Prepare for those chilly evenings with puzzles, books, and cozy blankets. You can create a dedicated “cozy corner” in your living room with all these essentials within reach. It’s a perfect setup for reading, games, or just snuggling up together.
Taking a little time to prepare for winter makes the season feel so much more enjoyable and keeps our homes feeling warm, cozy, and nourishing. As we settle in, I hope these ideas inspire you to create a comforting space for your family to enjoy all season long.
Wishing you a cozy, healthy winter!
Blessings,
Abbie
